Artist to Watch: Kid Cudi

Although he goes by “kid,” he’s hardly got the career of one. Three-time Grammy nominated Kid Cudi, real name Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, first starting gathering major attention when he released a mixtape titled A Kid Named Cudi. The single “Day ‘n’ Nite” from Cudi’s first album Man on the Moon: The End of Day broke the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts last year, which made him a rapper to watch in publications including Rolling Stone, Vibe and XXL.

Inspired by the death of his father and artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Cudi has worked with major players Kanye West, David Guetta and Common. After moving to New York, Cudi was signed to GOOD Music and worked on Kayne West's album 808s and Heartbreak on the song “Wecome to Heartbreak” and assisted with writing the songs “Heartless” and “Paranoid.”

When his #4 debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day was released in 2009, it sold over 100,000 copies in its first week. The second single off the album “Make Her Say” was in collaboration with Kayne West and Common. Cudi went on to be featured on Jay-Z’s critically acclaimed album Blueprint 3 in the track”Already Home.”

Cudi has stated that a follow-up to his first album is in the works and will be titled Evolution to Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, originally scheduled to be called Cudder and the Revolution of Evolution. Rumor has it that the album will house appearances from superstars including Snoop Dogg, Travis Barker and Clipse among others; it is also rumored that the albums will be part of a trilogy.

Not only is Cudi excelling in the music world, but he also stars on the HBO series How to Make it in America. Cudi definitely knows how to make it and will continue to do so.
